high-velocity cloud

A cloud of neutral hydrogen in our Galaxy moving at a speed (up to 460 km/s) higher than would be expected from the rate of rotation of the Galaxy alone (220 km/s). High-velocity clouds occur mainly in the northern hemisphere, and it is suggested that they could be clouds of intergalactic hydrogen falling towards the Milky Way.
